The WOC Trustees have invited 15 respected orchid enthusiasts, who represent orchid growers and orchid societies around the world, to form the Site Selection Committee for the 21st WOC to be held in 2014. |
The Committee will meet in Miami, USA, on Saturday 26 January to review applications from Taipei (Taiwan), Guayaquil (Ecuador), Joinville (Brazil), Lima (Peru) and Pretoria (South Africa). |
There will be an informal reception for the teams of applicants to meet the Committee and Trustees on Friday 25 January from 2.00 to 4.30 p.m. in the Banyan Room at the Sheraton Miami Mart Hotel. The reception will provide an opportunity for presenters to meet Committee members and Trustees whom they may not already know in an informal atmosphere. |
At the formal meeting on Saturday, presenters will be asked to emphasise how they would organise the various facets of the WOC that are of particular interest to Registrants, including the Conference, Show, Judging and Social Events, if successful in their bid. Other details of the criteria that will be sought by the Committee and the Trust are published in the Guidelines (to be found elsewhere on this web site). Each organisation will be allotted up to 20 minutes for their formal presentation and up to a further 15 minutes for questions and answers if required. These presentations will be followed by a closed session after which the 15 Committee members will cast secret ballots. |
Although the ultimate decision of the site is the purview of the Trustees, the recommendation of the Site Selection Committee is of the utmost importance and has always been ratified. The choice of venue for 2014 will be announced at the Closing Ceremony of the 19th WOC on Saturday afternoon. |
